Volunteering

Volunteer effort is absolutely essential to Age Connects Neath Port Talbot, and we are currently supported by a fantastic team of approximately 30 volunteers. Our diverse volunteer team work directly with older people, provide administrative support and/or help with community fundraising. 

Each year, our volunteers commit an average of 10,000 hours of their time, skills and expertise to improve the lives of local older people. This volunteer commitment has an annual economic value of over £125,000 each year and enables us to continue to provide a wide range of free and accessible services.

Can you help?
Volunteering can develop new skills, increase confidence, self-esteem and well-being, and is a great way to help form new friendships. You may want to give something back to your local community, gain valuable work experience, or maybe just want to be more socially and physically active.  Please see below a few of our current Volunteering opportunities:

Welfare Benefits Volunteer 
This vital role involves supporting older people to maximise their income through applying for benefits they may be entitled to. You will complete benefit checks and assist our service users to complete any necessary application forms such as Attendance Allowance, Personal Independence Payments and Pension Credit etc. Full training around welfare benefit eligibility and form completion is provided.

Switchboard and Administration Support 
Based in our offices in Alfred Street Neath, this role involves providing support to our busy office administration steam and will involve tasks such as answer calls and providing an initial point of contact for local older people looking for support from Age Connects NPT. 

Volunteer Befriender Good Neighbour Scheme 
This is a community-based role where you will provide one to one befriending and practical support to some of the loneliest and isolated older people in the area who are unable to access community-based support independently. Some of the things involved in this role may include collecting prescriptions, picking up essential food items, accompanying clients to appointments and visiting people in their own homes to offer a friendly conversation.  

Community Outreach Volunteer
In this role, you will provide support within our busy Community Outreach Hubs located in various communities across Neath Port Talbot. Our Outreach Hubs provide a wide range of health and wellbeing activities such as physical activity sessions, art and craft, reminiscence, musical therapy and much more. Your role will involve welcoming service users, making refreshments, chatting with attendees, assisting with activities and offering general social support to service users.

Foot Care Technician 
This role sits within our popular Foot Care and Nail Cutting service and is ideally suitable for someone with a background in care or nursing support. Full training can be provided.
